Great Gatsby Auto Spa & Detailing is an independent hand car wash and auto detailing shop at 3519 W Belmont Ave, in the middle of Avondale. We are not a franchise and not a chain, and we are not the biggest shop in Chicago. What we have is a team that brings a combined twenty years of hands-on detailing experience to every car that comes through the bay.
We built this business around two things most Chicago detailing shops make more complicated than they need to be. The first is pricing. Most shops run every job through a quoting process, so you cannot find out what a service costs until you have already given them your details. We publish what we can and tell you the rest before you book. The second is the work itself: every wash and every detail here is done by hand, by a person, not by a machine running a program.
That combination — knowing what you are paying, and knowing a human did the work — is the whole reason customers come back. It is also why most of our week is repeat business rather than one-off jobs.

Why Everything Here Is Done by Hand
Automatic washes are quick, and that is genuinely their only advantage. Spinning brushes drag grit across the paint, and over enough visits that shows up as fine swirl marks, especially on darker cars. Doing it by hand is slower and it costs us more time per vehicle. It is also the only way to get a result that holds up.
- Nothing touches the paint but hands and soft mitts. No brushes, no abrasive equipment.
- Wheels, rims, and tires get cleaned properly, not just whatever a machine can reach.
- Every car is hand-dried, so there are no water spots left to bake on in the sun.
- Safe on ceramic coatings and wraps — hand washing is the only method we will use on a coated car.
- Someone actually looks at your car. A machine cannot notice the thing you were hoping we would notice.
